More than 70% of smart phones all over the world is powered by Android OS. I bet it’s safe to say Android is taking over the world, but I still find it amusing that most people aside from making and receiving calls, chatting and browsing don’t know the power of the smartphone in their hand. An android device does much more than that and it will only be nice if I tell you other things your android device is useful for.


1. Use as a Security Camera
Do you just dump your former phone because you have upgraded to a new flagship device?? Simply use it as a security camera and access the feed via internet on any computer or instead, your new phone.

2. Used to Run a Web Server
Android is a Linux based OS. Since you can write codes on it, believe me your Android device is another webserver sitting in your palm with access to mySQL database, FTP etc.

Bloggers like us don’t need to sit by our computer all day long. Most of everything going behind the scene is done from the comfort of our mobile phones. You can transfer files to your blog via FTP, make a server available incorporated with a domain name and you can have a server sitting in your pocket.

3. Use as a Pedometer
With the accelerometer in your device, you can keep track of how many steps and distance you’ve walked. When used in conjunction with health Apps, you can enter your height, weight and other essential health details to keep track of your fitness.

4. Remotely access your PC
Did you know you can remotely access your PC from your phone with desktop apps such as Splashtop 2 Remote Control.

5. Used to Program Android App
What better way for programmers and developers to write and execute and compile their code immediately on an Android device.

To write an iOS app, your coding will be done on Mac, Windows app on a laptop or desktop and Android app on an Android device. Majority of programmers work on their PC but a free functional app called AIDE allows you to tap out some code from the phone itself.

You can also write other programs such as HTML, JavaScript, PHP etc with the aid of an app called DroidEdit
