Brillo, Google's Next Creation

Google is working on a software to help electronic devices communicate better. The software codenamed “Brillo” will give internet access to electronic devices such as fridges , hand dryers , refrigerators , E.t.c.Brillo is Reported to be a light weight version of Android , Targeted at low powered electronic devices(since android isn’t optimized to work on such devices) .

This technology could make it easier for other companies to build everything from “smart” fridges and light bulbs to garden monitors.Google is expected to launch the code for the new software next week at Google I/O software developers conference.

Dont Want to be "SEEN" on Whatsapp, Here is how....

WhatsApp is fast becoming the best messenger for mobile platform. It is available for all mobile platforms like Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian etc and  it is also the most used application on these platforms.

Once you have Internet access on your mobile phone, then you can send unlimited messages to anyone. The message can be long or short, video, audio, images, messages etc. And the best part is, the messaging is almost free. Yeah i said it "Almost Free".
Because of its unique and truly unbelievable features Facebook owner Mark couldn't help but pay a lot of money to acquire them. It is an application that has made life easy for so many of us. A lot of the service providers are now creating data plans that are specific to just Whatsapp users.
The last seen feature gives us an idea about when the person you want to chat was online. It’s a great feature, but the function becomes really annoying because it reveals whether you are online or not. You can not hide from your friends and they’ll keep texting you.
If you dont want to be seen then you can do the following to hide the last seen feature
    Open your Whatsapp Messenger
Go to Settings and click on Account
Next head towards Privacy and click on Last Seen
Next select Last seen for ” Everyone , My Contacts or Nobody”
There you have it, you can now stay hidden while been online.

Traslucent Status Bar for Google Map 9.9

Raise your hand if you've constantly been annoyed when you see the black status bar on Google Maps, particularly when it's being very obtrusive as you're navigating your way through a strange place? Probably all of us Maps users have been"victimized" by this black monstrosity.
Finally, Google has also probably had enough of it, and in the upcoming newest update of Google Maps,it has been replaced by a translucent bar.

The past few months, Google Maps has been bringing a lot of changes to the app, as its status as one of the most popular apps across all platforms has been solidified. While the updates have not been that major, they have contributed to making the user experience even smoother and more intuitive. But even though many updates have come and gone, that black status bar was a continuous blight amidst our joy of being able to navigate our way through strange cities and places. We've been hoping for a change in that, and now, it has finally come.Version 9.9 will finally feature a translucent status bar so we won't be disturbed anymore. Of course when you have a busy map, the status bar won't be all that readable, but at least it looks much better. The update will also bring a notification card when you start your navigation and it will tell you if that's the quickest route or if there are any delays on your way. You'll also get spoken alerts for this, to avoid you constantly looking at the screen. The update hasn't arrived yet on the Google Play Store.

Enable Hibernate Mode on Windows 8/8.1

Enable Hibernate Mode on Windows 8/8.1
Lately, i've been getting lots of calls from folks That the "Hibernate" option is disabled in the power menu in Windows 8/8.1.
The power menu doesn't show Hibernate Option. It contains Sleep, Shutdown and Restart options.

Many windows 8/8.1 users are not aware that Hibernation Option is available in windows 8/8.1 because the option is hidden (Microsoft simply disabled it).
The Hibernate Option can be added back to power menu. To get the missing hibernate option back in
Windows 8/8.1, just follow the simple steps below:

** Press Windows + W key to open the settings search menu. Then search for Power Options and select.
** At the left side, click on Choose what the power buttons do option, and a dialogue box would appear, then select Change settings that are currently unavailable option.
** Now, scroll down to the Shutdown Settings and you'll notice that "Hibernate" option is unchecked.
** Check Hibernate box, then apply Save Changes.
The hibernation mode of your system will be enabled immediately and no more hidden in your windows 8/8..
So whenever you want to hibernate your System, simply press "Alt+F4" keys together as usual and you should see Hibernate Mode in the list displayed or move the Cursor to the upper-right corner of your Windows 8/8.1 Screen on your System(or by pressing windows +C, then click on Settings => Power Option and you should see hibernation mode in the list as it show in the screenshot below:

Differences Between E, H, H+ and 3G Networks on Your Smartphone Device

GE (2.75G), which is an enhanced form of what in old phones used to be called GPRS. It has slow data rates of around 236kbps (1mbps peak speed). But actual usage speeds are often lower. Don’t expect to stream a video with E showing on your network bar, that would ridiculous to try.....

What Is 3G Network & WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)?
English: The picture shows the Logical Archite...

3G is the next one. It uses WCDMA signalling. The data rates here are comparable to edge but It offers better quality, better latency, lower delay, so making it more suitable for audio, video and streaming services.

Meaning of H, H+ And Their Differences
H is HSPA which stands for high speed packet access. It’s an improvement over 3G and is mix of HSDPA (downlink) and HSUPA (uplink). Major changes were done on the radio side which increased the data rates to up to 3 and 7Mbps (in theory, its more). Many Smartphone users in Nigeria will have noticed that H has replaced 3G on their phones

H+ is Evolved HSPA. HSPA was further improved into HSPA+ where new technologies like MIMO antennas were introduced which boosted the data to faster speeds of around 160Mbps downloads and around 15Mbps uploads (the data rate for H+ is generally advertised 21Mbps). H+ shows up on my network screen and although I have never experienced download speeds of greater than 1.3mbps, I find the browsing experience on H+ very satisfactory.

What Is A 4G Network? How Is It Different From 3G?4G networks have begun to appear across Europe and America, and we can expect the technology to arrive Nigeria soon. I will definitely keep you posted.

Note that if you subscribe to a 3G plan, you have subscribed to all the above network types. Your mobile phone first looks out for cells/towers which are H+ capable; if it fails it tries the lower ones. When 3G is not at all available, the mobile phone falls back to Edge.

Also, if you observe when you are in Edge, your calls and data will not work together. This is because voice and data calls use the same infrastructure in 2G whereas in 3G (or H or H+) you will be able to browse on your phone while you are on call. This is because data and voice are separated and can work distinctly in a 3G network.

How to disable auto-install of Google Play apps

For beginner users, you might feel that moment of panic when all of a sudden your installed apps from the Google Play Store start to update and you don’t know why. Don’t be alarmed though because this is actually something ridiculously easy to solve as well as adjust to your own personal update preferences.

Stop that app from updating automatically.

As a general rule, the apps from the Google Play store will download updates automatically in order to improve their performance on your tablet or smartphone, which can also be quite annoying as it slows down your phone, uses up your mobile data and interrupts you as you do other things with the device.

It is recommended in most cases to update your apps, as developers work hard to improve them to be more intuitive and incorporate better designs. For this reason, many prefer to manually install updates rather than updating everything (or nothing). In order to do this, you must disable the auto-update apps feature, which is easy to do.
1. Launch the Google Play Store app and hit the in-app menu button of your Android device. Choose settings.

2. You’ll be presented with the Play Store settings options and under the ‘General’ subcategory choose ‘Auto-update apps’ which will state the current setting of this function.

3. Tapping on this option will provide you with three options which can be reconfigured at any time. You have either
*)     Do not auto-update apps
**)     Auto-update apps at any time. Data Charges may apply and
***)     Auto-update apps over WiFi only.
Choose the first one which means you will always need to manually launch an update in the future, if you so desire. You should still receive update notifications to alert you when an app needs updating though.

To manually update an app, you must go to your list of apps, which can be found back on the main menu page of the Play Store. This is located on the left-sided pull-out menu. Here you will tap on ‘My apps’ which shows you either the installed or all apps on your device. It tells you which ones can be updated, the ones that have recently been updated and finally, the up to date apps.

YouTube app updated with Offline feature...

Google has updated the YouTube app which allows you to watch videos offline where there is little to no internet connection and has also worked in the new Material Design. The offline feature is only available in India, Indonesia, and the Philippines as for now. Google is working on updating their other apps as well to fit into the new Material design.
Material Design sounds fancy, and it is. It's Android's new facelift with solid vivid colors, shadow textures, more animations, and more things that suggest new look and depth. With the new YouTube update, you can now search videos with filters like you do on the desktop version like: duration, HD, or closed caption.

The offline feature only applies to certain videos, but much of those videos are popular YouTube content in India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. A new “offline” icon would appear on the video, where you would tap that to view for later when you don't have connection. The video is saved to watch later for up to 48 hours. You can now plan ahead of time when you know there's low/no internet connection in certain places.

YouTube is changing - and the change is good. Android users must be excited as they have been rolling out the latest Android Lollipop, new Material Design, and now new user interface Google apps. Alongside India, Indonesia, and the Philippines have been the first ones to experience the new offline feature. As stated by Google, the offline feature is just a start. What's in store for us in the future? What would make YouTube “that much better”?

Installing applications outside of Google Playstore

Sure, it is an easy and secure way of installing apps and getting other things for your Android device, What happens you may not have enough data to download apps from playstore or when Google Play decides to pull an app from their marketplace? Sure, there are usually good reasons behind this, but sometimes it just doesn’t make sense and you still want to get that particular app on your device. Well, there’s a way to work around this......

Setting up your device
Follow this instructions.

Head to Settings

Check off “Unknown Sources”, as shown in the screenshot above.

By checking off this, you will enable your device to install APK files that are found outside of Google Play. I like to keep the “Verify Apps” option checked off when I’m doing this, just as an extra step I need to do before installing files.
Be aware: don’t go installing APKs that you find all over the place as they could be harmful to your device. Always make sure you know what you’re installing and where it is coming from.....

Flow Home:Android home screen Re-imagined

It’s been done a couple of times before, but most people tend to go back to the old tap-your-icon-and-swipe-to move home screen. Flow Home is a different proposition altogether. It takes the things you usually want to check on your phone – Facebook feed, Twitter, Instagram, the weather – and puts it on your home screen in a timeline flow.n

Flow Home’s primary view is a sort of grid of widgets that the user can scroll vertically. For Facebook items, you can like from the tiles directly. For Twitter items, you can favorite and retweet from the tiles. If you want more interaction, you can also go into the app from the tile itself.

For app access, there’s a home button you can place either on the left or right bottom corner of the screen that is designed for thumb access. The button opens an inspired pie menu of quick shortcuts to your favorite apps. Pretty nifty.

We will try this for a week and see if we find the urge to come back to the original Android home screen. We downloaded the beta app from the Google Play Store, but you still need a beta invite code to activate the app. Snatch a current one from Flow Home’s Twitter feed here, and then tell us about it.

VLC Finally Exits Beta Phase, Brings Out Stable Version

VLC Finally Exits Beta Phase, Brings Out Stable Version

We have much love for the VLC media player – it’s an app for people working on desktops and laptops who want a media player that works with just about any media format you throw at it. It just works, and we were pretty excited when VLC wanted to bring its goods over to Android some two years ago. All that time, the VLC app for Android stayed in beta – until today, when we finally have VLC 1.0 in our hands.

There are still stuff to tweak with the roll-out – the URL for the Google Play Store listing betrays the fact that it has been in beta for a while, and they have not changed it yet. Ditto with the Play Store description. But other than that, we have VLC 1.0 in all its glory – with a host of bug fixes and performance updates, of course.

The interface is also available in dark or white colors, and it comes with DVD iso and menu support, an equalizer, and better playlist management. The new version also has an updated SD card detection feature. Lastly, hardware acceleration for video and graphics is now enabled by default, hopefully the code is now more stable to handle it.
Primarily, VLC 1.0 fixes the issue with ARMv8 processors and the instances when it crashes when used in Android 5.

VLC for Android media player is free to download and will (mostly) work with any device supporting Android 2.1 or higher. Of course, the better the specs, the better chances you have of running the app smoothly.

Chinese OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Xiaomi might make US market debut in 2015

US residents may very well be getting a taste of the Chinese OEM Xiaomi's brand of smartphones as it looks like they might be entering the market by 2015. Sources say they will be appearing at the Consumer Electronic Show in January 2015 and that they are currently investing in US technology and looking for funding as well. While they ship more phones in their country than Samsung, outside of China, they still have to make a name for themselves.
